Mayerthorpe town council has approved a 1.25 per cent increase to the municipal tax rate for 2026, bringing it to 4.25 per cent.
Council says this is a “reasonable and measured” adjustment and is comparable to other municipalities experiencing similar economic pressures. Town officials say this change allows it to maintain current service levels and continue to build financial reserves, ensuring long-term sustainability.
“This decision was not made lightly,” council said. “We carefully reviewed the budget in detail to ensure we are protecting essential services while remaining fiscally responsible.”
Officials say the change should amount to an increase of about $1.25 to the average household’s monthly bill.
It comes as council balances ongoing economic fluctuations and inflationary pressures.
