Edson town council has unanimously approved a development permit from Reflections, allowing it to expand its operations to include 24-hour service and overnight accommodation.
Development permit DP-2026-009 was approved by council on April 7.
The permit approval is subject to a few conditions, including:
- The development complies with information and plans approved by the development authority.
- The facility maintains compliance with fire code.
- Access to the facility remains from 1 Avenue.
- Site security measures must be in place that include external cameras, external lighting, and perimeter fencing to maintain a safe facility for the public, staff, and patrons of the facility.
- The town is provided with a current copy of the facility’s emergency response plan.
- That approval is subject to provincial oversight. Should the province revoke the approval for 24-hour services, this approval will also be cancelled.
“Reflections has shown nothing but willingness to work with the town, and of course, they have provincial obligations to meet as well, which they’ve done all the way through,” Councillor Pat Fogarty commented. “I’ve supported Reflections and the work they’ve done since being elected, and I see no reason to stop doing that. I think this is important and I think it’s going to provide even more help to those in our community who require their services.”
Reflections is an adult drop-in centre that provides basic services like snacks, showers, laundry and social activities to residents facing mental health or housing challenges. In February, council rezoned the Reflections parcel to a Direct Control Open District to facilitate this development permit application.
