Lac Ste. Anne County and the Town of Edson are both receiving federal funding through the Rural Transit Solutions Fund (RTSF) to support transit purchases and planning projects.
Ottawa is investing $730,538 into six community projects. The benefiting communities are contributing $102,602 combined.
In Lac Ste. Anne County, the funds will support the purchase of a mini-bus for the Lac Ste. Anne Métis Community Association, which will provide on-demand transit services for seniors and Elders.
“The mini-bus will serve Lac Ste. Anne Métis community members living at our new Otâ Wîkitâhk seniors/Elders housing development opening this spring, as well as members living in the Lac Ste. Anne Settlement and nearby locations,” commented Tracy L. Friedel, president of the association. “Being able to provide accessible transportation options for our members to attend medical appointments, access food stores and participate in community gatherings and cultural outings is another way we are working to support our members, and we are thankful to the Government of Canada for this investment in our community.”
In Edson, it will help the town purchase an accessible van for the Edson Senior’s Transportation Society to provide seniors and individuals with disabilities with access to essential services.
