The Whitecourt Wolverines defeated the Fort McMurray Oil Barons 5-1 at home last Friday night.
Wolverine Xander Schulte opened the scoring in period one with his third goal of the post season, along with assistance from Nathan Hawkins, bringing it to 1-0.
Tyler Pretty then netted a goal for Whitecourt at 8:25 in period two for a 2-0 lead. Quentin Bourne assisted on Pretty’s third of the post season as well.
The Oil Barons answered, however, with a goal before the end of the frame to make it 2-1.
In the third, the Wolverines scored three unanswered goals for the 5-1 finish.
With help from Xander Schulte, Tyler Pretty scored at 0:47.
Schulte then netted his second goal of the night at 10:10, with Alex Symes and Brendan Ruskowski on the assists. Pretty scored once more, an empty netter, unassisted, at 12:21.
The Wolverines won their series against the Oil Barons 4-1 and now head into the league semifinals against the Grande Prairie Storm, starting Friday, April 3, in Whitecourt.
