Wednesday night was game four of the AJHL playoffs for the Whitecourt Wolverines, and they won 5-3 against the Oil Barons in Fort McMurray.
The Oil Barons scored three unanswered goals before the end of the second frame for a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes.
The Wolverines bounced back in period three, though, with Kyle Tucker scoring the team’s first goal at 1:11 to make it 3-1. Nolan Schmidt assisted.
Xander Schulte scored next at 2:24, with assistance from Tristan Slywka, to narrow Fort McMurray’s lead to 3-2.
Then at 12:35, Tyler Pretty and Xander Schulte supported Jager Gugyelka to tie things up at 3-3.
Nolan Schmidt then netted one of his own at 15:14 to put the Wolverines in a 4-3 lead. The helper went to Jalen Bianchet.
Later, an empty netter by Xander Schulte brought Whitecourt to a 5-3 lead at 18:36. Tyler Pretty assisted.
Netminder Elliott Pratt stopped 31 out of 34 shots on goal.
Game five in the best of seven series is back in Whitecourt on Friday, March 27, at 7:00 p.m.
