With 1,381 people in the stands, the Whitecourt Wolverines shut out the Fort McMurray Oil Barons 4-0 on the road Tuesday night to take a 2-1 best-of-seven series lead over their northern rivals.
The first goal of the game was netted by Wolverine Ty Rayan with just two seconds left in period one. It was also his first goal of the playoffs. He was assisted by Jager Gugyelka and Alex Symes.
Rayan scored again at 2:28 of the second frame, bumping Whitecourt to a 2-0 lead. The helper went to Jackson DeGraves and Alex Symes.
In period three, Tyler Pretty scored his second of the playoffs at 15:14 for a 3-0 lead for Whitecourt. Alex Symes and Jackson DeGraves chipped in with the helpers.
Then, Kyle Tucker scored his first goal of the playoffs at 16:57, with assistance from Jalen Bianchet for the team to finish with a 4-0 lead.
Wolverines netminder Elliot Pratt earned himself a 25 save shutout to assist in the victory.
The Wolverines remain in Fort McMurray Wednesday, March 25, for Game 4. It’s a 7 p.m. face-off.
