Woodlands County and Town of Whitecourt officials are working together to strengthen communication and build a constructive relationship between the municipalities.
Administration and council officials from both communities recently attended a joint meeting intended to renew conversations on issues of shared interest, such as business, infrastructure and regional opportunities.
With new councils elected in the fall of 2025, the meeting was an opportunity to reconnect, share perspectives and identify beneficial areas of collaboration. Both groups reportedly agreed on the importance of maintaining an open and respectful dialogue moving forward. Attendees also committed to continue meeting regularly to exchange ideas, discuss priorities and maintain communication.
“This meeting represents an important first step for our newly elected councils to reconnect and strengthen the working relationship between Woodlands County and the Town of Whitecourt,” said Woodlands County Reeve Dave Kusch. “We are committed to continuing these conversations on a regular basis to identify areas where collaboration makes sense, while always ensuring that the decisions we make reflect what is best for our respective ratepayers.”
Whitecourt Mayor Ray Hilts added, “It was a great meeting, and I look forward to building a productive relationship and defining a new era of collaboration with the county.”
The groups held the joint Strategic Planning Session on March 17.
