Swan Hills School may remain closed next week as wind damage to the roof continues to be assessed, but temporary learning spaces are being arranged.
Following intense winds on Sunday, March 8, Swan Hills School closed due to significant roof damage.
A structural assessment was ordered to ensure the building is safe for staff and students before reopening, but snow and ice have delayed the process, the Pembina Hills School Division reports. Restoration crews are continuing their work to expose the affected area and assess structural integrity, but additional testing may be required.
As of March 11, the school is planning for the possibility that it may remain closed next week as the work continues.
That being said, temporary classroom spaces are being arranged so in-person learning can continue for March 16-19.
Busing will be available for students in Kindergarten to Grade 7 in the morning and afternoon. To ride, families must complete a temporary busing registration form, available online. Registration must be done by 12 p.m. on Friday, March 13, even if a child is already registered to ride for the school year.
Early Learning programming remains closed for the time being. The division is exploring options for the program should the school closure extend beyond next week.
