Last week, Edson town council received the 2025 Q3 Municipal Policing Report from the Edson RCMP.
For the RCMP, Q3 runs from October to December.
In 2025, that quarter saw a 17 per cent drop in persons crime with 45 incidents, nine fewer than in 2024. Notably, assaults dropped by half, to 15 incidents. That’s down by 38 per cent compared to 2021 as well, which saw 24 assaults reported.
On the other hand, overall property crime increased by 11 per cent in Edson. Specifically, break-and-enters nearly doubled to 23, from 11 in 2024. Thefts under $5,000 also increased to 48 counts in 2025, up from 32 in the same quarter of 2024.
According to the report, tool thefts were trending during this period.
Reports of spousal abuse also ticked up slightly to 28, from 25 in 2024. That’s also a 47 per cent increase compared to 2021, which saw 19 incidents reported.
To help focus policing priorities moving forward, the Edson RCMP is hosting a Town Hall on March 11, where residents can provide their input. It will be held at the Edson Friendship Centre at 7 p.m.
