Edson town council met earlier this week to allocate 2025 budget surpluses to various accounts and reallocate other funds.
During its regularly scheduled meeting on March 3, Edson town council assigned $807,994 of a $2,024,653 operating surplus to Operating Reserves and $1,216,659 to Capital Reserves.
A capital surplus of $925,122 was also allocated to Capital Reserves.
The town says the operating surplus was due to several factors, including revenue sharing agreements, favourable tenders that reduced project costs, increased utility sales and internal efficiencies.
Council also approved a transfer of $35,280 to the CAO Contingency Reserve from the Environmental Services (Water) Reserve. The CAO contingency reserve is designed for time sensitive situations and, as such, the Utilities Department reportedly utilized $35,280 from the fund for water valve replacements on 2 Avenue. This transfer replenishes the reserve to its optimal $250,000 balance.
Finally, $82,388 in funds were added for capital projects, including Township Road 532 construction and 18 Avenue rehabilitation.
