Earlier this week, Yellowhead County council awarded two project tenders for a bridge culvert replacement and bridge maintenance.
During its regular meeting on Feb. 24, council awarded the tender for a bridge culvert replacement to Strydhorst Enterprises Ltd. for $617,081.60.
A culvert on Range Road 140 needs to be replaced with a larger-diameter culvert to allow for adequate fish passage. The length will also be increased to allow for a standard road top width and safer side slopes.
Council also awarded a tender for bridge maintenance and other work to Volker Stevin Highways Ltd. for $596,400. It also authorized a budget increase of $80,000 to be taken from the Restricted Surplus Fund, Infrastructure: Roads and Bridges, to cover the unbudgeted portion of the work.
The project site is located on Range Road 135, north of Township Road 540. The concrete in six exterior girders is deteriorating and in need of replacement. At the same time, other minor maintenance, such as back wall repairs, will occur.
The county says the approved budget increase is intended to cover increased construction costs, engineering costs and a small contingency fee.
