This Saturday is the Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY), an annual walk to fundraise for charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger and homelessness across Canada.
In Edson, the event will support the Reflections organization.
Reflections is an adult drop-in centre that provides support to anyone in need, particularly those experiencing mental health or homelessness challenges. It provides hot meals and resources like showers, laundry services, clothing, personal hygiene donations and more. During the winter, it also offers emergency overnight shelter spaces when temperatures reach -25 C.
So far, 15 teams of 61 walkers have registered for the event, and donations are sitting at $16,875; that’s 84 per cent of the $20,000 goal.
Participants will walk either a five- or a two-kilometre route, starting and ending at the Reflections building (4920 1 Avenue).
The event schedule for Feb. 28 is as follows:
- 4:00 p.m.: Check in
- 4:45 p.m.: Gather for opening remarks
- 5:00 p.m.: Send-off
- 6:00 p.m.: A light meal is served
- 7:00 p.m.: Event finishes
