Intersection improvements to traffic and pedestrian lights at two intersections, 51 Street/49 Avenue and 52 Avenue/47 Street, in Whitecourt are underway starting this week.
The projects are part of a broader initiative to enhance accessibility and connectivity of bus stops along the transit route. The town says 80 per cent of the project costs, plus sidewalk and transit shelter upgrades, are covered by grant funding through the Rural Transit Solutions Fund.
Upgrades began on Feb. 23 and are expected to be complete by April 13.
Over that period, motorists should expect occasional outages to traffic signals, at which time the intersections will act as a four-way stop.
Single lane closures will also occur on occasion, as outlined in the maps below. Signs and barricades will be in place for these closures, and a 30 km/h speed limit will be in place.

The sidewalk may also occasionally be closed during the project.
Updates will be shared on the Town of Whitecourt website and Facebook page when available.
