It’s a packed weekend, with Valentine’s Day on Saturday, Feb. 14 and Family Day on Monday, Feb. 16, and a few communities have activities in store.
Whitecourt
Whitecourt is hosting its Winter Carnival on Feb. 14, complete with an ice slide, horse and wagon rides, skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and family games.
Free hot dogs and bannock will also be available while supplies last. Activities run 12-4 p.m. at Festival Park.
On Monday, Feb. 16, public skating at JDA Place will be free with a food bank donation. Skaters can hit the ice from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and helmets are mandatory.
A free Family Day movie will also show at 2 p.m. at Vista Theatre MLT, although cash donations for the food bank are encouraged.
And to top it all off, families have until Feb. 17 to create a unique snow sculpture and submit a photo of it to the town’s Snow Sculpture Contest. Winners will be named and prizes will be distributed for three categories: most original, most detail-oriented and people’s choice.
Judging runs Feb. 18-21, with the winners announced Feb. 23. You can enter by submitting a photo of your sculpture to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #WCTSNOW, or by emailing it to jamieesutton@whitecourt.ca.
