A B.C. resident has been arrested and charged following reports of a male acting strangely near a school in Edson.
On Feb. 10, Edson RCMP responded to a call about a male who was seen throwing beef jerky and yelling bible verses at students.
The school principal alleges that when they confronted the male, he pulled out a cap gun and fired three shots in the principal’s direction, then left in a car.
Edson RCMP say they quickly located the vehicle, which refused to stop and headed west on Highway 16.
Mounties say the suspect stopped his vehicle on a farm east of Hinton after neighboring detachments, Alberta RCMP Air Services, the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services assisted with the pursuit. Police say the suspect exited the vehicle and was arrested without incident.
As a result, a 39-year-old male resident of Dawson Creek, B.C., faces the following charges:
- Use of an imitation firearm while committing an offence
- Possession of an imitation firearm for a purpose dangerous
- Mischief
- Flight from police
- Dangerous driving
He was brought before a justice of the peace, remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Edson on Feb. 12.
