Canada Post says it is working on contingency plans to resume mail processing and delivery in Edson, possibly by the end of this week.
At the end of January, an overnight water leak from a tenant space above the post office caused the Edson Canada Post office to close. The company initially anticipated a prompt reopening by Jan. 30, but repair assessments found the damage to be greater than anticipated. Canada Post says it is working with the building’s landlord and contractors to reopen the office as safely as possible.
Mail and parcels that were in the post office at the time of the leak have not been damaged, officials say. In the meantime, mail destined for Edson is being held at a processing plant.
Until the office reopens, residents can access postal services at the Edson Convenience Store (5609 13 Avenue). Hours are:
- Monday to Friday: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Saturday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Sunday: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Canada Post apologizes for the inconvenience and says more information will be quickly shared when available. Residents with questions about their postal services can contact Canada Post’s customer service team at canadapost.ca/support or by telephone at 1-866-607-6301 (TTY: 1-800-267-2797).
