The Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD) Board of Trustees recently approved moderate increases to transportation fees and ratified a new collective agreement with the Bus Driver Association.
For the first time in several years, the division says, it has increased transportation fees for ineligible, alternate or second seat and out-of-jurisdiction riders.
In the 2026-2027 school year, ineligible rider fees will increase to $525 from $500. For families with three or more children, the family rate will increase to $1,250 from $1,200. Out-of-jurisdiction fees will increase by the same amount, to the same values.
For alternate or reserved second seats, fees will increase to $425 from $400. The family rate will increase to $925 from $900.
The board also ratified a new Collective Agreement with the Bus Driver Association.
Driver representative Serena Willis said that it was “an extremely successful negotiation where we felt heard,” and called it the best negotiation for drivers in over 12 years.
The division said the final agreement is “balanced, fiscally responsible, and provides a solid foundation for continued growth and partnership with the Bus Driver Association.”
Both parties reportedly demonstrated a shared focus on safety, efficiency and mutual respect throughout the negotiation process, which began in December 2025.
These decisions were made during the board’s regularly scheduled public meeting on Feb. 4.
