The Whitecourt Wolverines held on to a 1-1 tie until the end of the game on Jan. 16, when they won in a shootout against the Drayton Valley Thunder.
The Thunder’s Will Jamiseon scored the first goal of the game in period two, earning a 1-0 lead for Drayton.
Wolverine Tristan Slywka scored in frame three, bringing the teams to a 1-1 tie that lasted to the buzzer. He was assisted by Jett Quaschnick and Braden Nienaber.
The match then went to a shootout, where Whitecourt’s Quentin Bourne scored the winning goal.
Thunder goalie Kaden Clegg fielded 43 shots on goal, while Wolverine Elliott Pratt took on 26 shots from the Thunder.
This is the fifth win in a row for the Wolverines, who lead the AJHL North Division with a record of 26-9-0-1.
