A citizen-initiated petition regarding a referendum on Alberta’s separation from the rest of Canada is coming to Fox Creek and Edson.
The petition asks, “Do you agree that the province of Alberta should cease to be a part of Canada to become an independent state?”
The petition’s signature collection period began on Jan. 3 and lasts 120 days. The proponent, Mitch Sylvestre, must collect 177,732 in-person signatures to bring the question to a referendum.
Petitioners will be in Fox Creek today, Jan. 20, at 4 p.m. for a signing event at the Fox Creek Community Hall. A guest will also speak at 7 p.m.
Saturday, Jan. 24, the group will be in Edson at Harvest Outreach Ministries at 1 p.m.
