The Whitecourt Wolverines have extended their win streak to four games after beating the Devon Xtreme 4-1 at home last night.
On Jan. 14, Devon opened the scoring just 0:33 into the game for a quick 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later, Wolverine Xander Schulte tied things up with a powerplay goal after the Xtreme’s Tyson Baschuk went to the box for slashing. Jager Gugyelka and Braden Nienaber assisted.
Jalen Bianchet bumped the Wolverines to a 2-1 lead at 13:01 in period two with his 32nd goal of the regular season. Kyle Tucker and Spencer Claerhout got the helpers.
Then at 16:42 and 17:42, Devon’s Nolan Eastwood and Darius Hordal earned slashing and game delay minors, respectively, sending Whitecourt to the powerplay. With assistance from Kyle Tucker and Jalen Bianchet, Wolverine Cole Barrett took the opportunity to net his 13th goal of the season at 18:15, bringing the team to a 3-1 lead.
Frame three saw Parker Fitzgerald score at 15:54, with support from Ty Rayan. It was Fitzgerald’s second goal of the regular season, and secured the 4-1 win for Whitecourt.
The Whitecourt Wolverines remain in the leading position in the AJHL North Division, with a record of 25-9-0-1. The team is on home ice again this Friday, Jan. 16, to entertain the Drayton Valley Thunder.
