ProFoxx Rentals and Fencing is encouraging residents in Whitecourt, Fox Creek and Edmonton to participate in its Random Act of Kindness Day this Friday, Jan. 16.
The company is hosting this one-day community initiative, called “Small Acts, Big Ripples,” from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It’s meant to encourage individuals, families, workplaces and community groups to perform a random act of kindness and share it publicly to inspire a wave of similar actions.
The event is intentionally timed to lead into Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which the organization says is widely known as a day of service. It hopes to communicate that “kindness is contagious,” and simple actions can have big impacts.
“Our communities are built on the everyday choices we make,” the company says. “This day is simply an invitation: choose kindness — then watch the ripples grow.”
Participation is open to individuals over the age of 18 in the Whitecourt, Fox Creek and Edmonton areas, as well as across Alberta.
Through 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Friday, participants are asked to:
- Do a random act(s) of kindness: For example, buy coffee for a stranger, leave an encouraging note, shovel a neighbour’s driveway, make a donation, or become a volunteer.
- Tag @ProFoxxRentals and use the tag #ProFoxxRAKDay in a post about your action; photos and videos are encouraged.
You can also nominate someone else’s act of kindness that you witness that day.
In Whitecourt, ProFoxx has partnered with Community Lunch Box, which provides lunches to schools in the area. The organization will be hosted at ProFoxx’s Whitecourt yard (3345 33 Street), where residents can take their bagged empty bottles and cans to donate to the program and participate in the initiative.
“They are walking and talking kindness every day in this community. I was bowled over by the things that they’re doing and the impact that they have,” comments Kristi Hammond, of ProFoxx, on the lunch program.
Participants who post with the proper tag will be entered to win a prize pack valued at about $1,500, featuring local items designed to support and celebrate local connection. It includes two tickets to the Jan. 31 Edmonton Oilers game, dinner for two at Hayloft Steak and Fish and a room at the Matrix Hotel, with breakfast included.
