Whitecourt town council held its first regular meeting of 2026 on Jan. 12 to approve an open house date, appoint a deputy mayor, and confirm council attendance at various conferences.
As approved by council, the Town of Whitecourt will hold a 2026 Budget Information Open House on March 5 from 3-6:30 p.m. at the Allan and Jean Millar Centre.
Attendees will be provided with budget highlights and have an opportunity to ask questions and give comments.
The 2026 Interim Budget was approved by council on Dec. 15, 2025, and the final budget will be approved later in the spring.

Free childcare for children up to seven-years-old will be available at the event, along with the Doors Open Youth Program for youth in Grades 6-12. The Doors Open Youth Program runs from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
During the meeting, council also confirmed that members will be attending the 2026 Federation of Canadian Municipalities annual conference in Edmonton in June, as well as the 2026 Spring Municipal Leaders’ Caucus, hosted by Alberta Municipalities in March, also in Edmonton. Attendance at these events has been allocated in the 2026 Interim Budget.
Council also appointed Bill McAree to serve as deputy mayor from Feb. 1 to May 31.
