A Barrhead County resident is facing charges relating to two motor vehicle collisions allegedly caused by livestock obstructing a highway.
County of Barrhead Enforcement Services have laid two charges against a 77-year-old following incidents that occurred on Jan. 5, along Highway 654 near Range Road 24.
Around 7:38 p.m., Barrhead RCMP and county peace officers responded to a collision involving a semi and eight black Angus cattle.
Around 10:38 p.m. that same evening, officers responded to another collision at the same location, involving an SUV and three black Angus cattle.
Police say no injuries were reported in either incident, though significant property damage occurred. Barrhead RCMP and the RCMP Livestock Investigations Unit are continuing their investigation, and additional charges may be laid.
The County of Barrhead is reminding livestock owners of their responsibility to ensure animals are properly contained at all times, as livestock on roadways can pose a serious risk to public safety.
