A Barrhead resident has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following a fire earlier this month.
On Dec. 13, Barrhead RCMP were called to assist with a structure fire on Range Road 45 in Barrhead.
Police spoke with the resident, who claimed someone had tried to prevent them from exiting, and became suspicious that the fire had been intentionally set. Upon further investigation, the RCMP believed the incident was targeted and identified and arrested a suspect.
As a result, 36-year-old Timothy Kevin Russel, of Barrhead, was charged with:
- Attempted murder
- Arson – disregard for human life
- Forcible confinement
- Assault causing bodily harm
- Assault
Russel was brought before a justice of the peace and remanded into custody. He is to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Barrhead on Dec. 23, 2025.
