Whitecourt RCMP recently presented a Certificate of Appreciation to two community members for their assistance during an arrest.
On Dec. 4, around 8 p.m., Whitecourt RCMP were dispatched to a rural property in Woodlands County to investigate a suspicious person. In the meantime, the caller also contacted their neighbours, Larry and Brandon Bannister, who attended and tried to speak to the unknown male.
Police say the male would not speak to the Bannisters and walked away, at which point the pair began to follow the male until police arrived.
Once RCMP members arrived, the suspicious male allegedly refused to comply with police directions and physically resisted officers once told he was under arrest. During the struggle to handcuff the male, both of the Bannisters assisted the police, allowing him to be taken into custody safely.
Whitecourt RCMP is acknowledging the actions of the Bannisters, their commitment to their community and for assisting the RCMP.
