A cold warning is in effect for Woodlands County and nearby areas.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) says a period of very cold wind chills is expected, with temperatures and wind chill values near -40 C continuing on Friday.
The cold is expected to moderate in some areas this afternoon, but return Friday evening, and values near -40 C should end by Saturday afternoon.
ECCC reminds, if it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to do so.
Impacted residents should dress in layers, with a wind resistant outer layer. You should also cover as much exposed skin as possible, as frostbite can develop within minutes.
The warning also applies to Barrhead, Fox Creek, and other nearby areas. The entire list of affected communities is available here.
