The Bonnyville Pontiacs beat the Whitecourt Wolverines 4-3 at the R. J. Lalonde arena last night.
Kyle Tucker netted the first goal of the night for the Wolverines at 5:24, and Ethan Short assisted.
Later, Quentin Bourne went to the box for boarding, sending the Pontiacs to the powerplay, but with just 12 seconds left in the frame, Whitecourt’s Brendan Ruskowski secured a shorthanded insurance goal for a 2-0 lead. Braden Nienaber got the helper.
The Pontiacs brought the score to 2-1 nearly halfway through the second frame, but Wolverine Cole Barrett, assisted by Jalen Bianchet and Brendan Ruskowski, scored less than two minutes later to bump Whitecourt to a 3-1 lead.
The Pontiacs maintained the upper hand for the rest of the game, however, netting one more in the second frame and two in the third for a 4-3 victory.
The Wolverines outshot the Pontiacs 42-35 over the course of the game, and the team remains in first place in the AJHL North Division.
