On the road last night, the Whitecourt Wolverines lost 4-3 in a shootout to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.
About four minutes in, Wolverine Kyle Tucker sent the Oil Barons to a powerplay after earning a high sticking minor, giving the team a chance to score and gain a 1-0 lead. But with two minutes left in the frame, Tucker scored to tie it up 1-1. Ethan Short and Spencer Claerhout got the helpers.
Fort McMurray scored again in period 2 for a 2-1 lead, and again at the beginning of period 3 to quickly bump the team to 3-1.
The Wolverines earned back a 3-3 tie in the last six minutes of the game: Ethan Short, supported by Kyle Tucker, netted one at 14:41 and Brendan Ruskowski, assisted by Braden Nienaber, got another at 17:36.
Tied at 3-3, the Dec. 8 game went into overtime, where no goals were scored. The teams moved on to a shootout, where the Oil Barons secured their win.
The Whitecourt Wolverines still lead the AJHL North Division with 18-6-0-1.
