A man charged with second-degree murder following a shooting at the Whitecourt Airport last year has been ordered to stand trial.
Matthew Charles Jackson, 44, of Whitecourt, was ordered to stand trial in Whitecourt Court of Justice on Dec. 3, 2025, following the completion of a preliminary hearing.
A trial date, however, has yet to be set.
RCMP say it was just before 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, 2024, when they received a report of a shooting near the Whitecourt Airport and that the suspect was currently driving on Highway 43. After stopping the vehicle, police say they arrested and charged a suspect and located a firearm.
Mounties and EMS say when they arrived at the airport they located a deceased victim who was identified as 44-year-old Whitecourt resident David Beauchesne. The Alberta Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
Jackson was taken before a Justice of the Peace and remanded into custody.
