Edson’s town council recently approved two budget-related decisions.
Seven organizations have been approved for tax-exempt status for the 2026 taxation year, and for up to three consecutive years (2026-2028), subject to regulatory conditions.
To be eligible for property tax exemption, the property must be used for charitable or benevolent purposes, education, religious worship, senior housing or community recreation.
The following locations have been found to meet this criteria and approved for tax-exempt status:
- Core Daycare Society
- Daycare Society of Edson
- Lions Club of Edson
- Edson Tumblers Gymnastics Club
- McMan Youth, Family and Community Services Association
- Association Supporting Choices of People Edson (SCOPE)
- Edson Friendship Centre
Council also approved a $1,000 increase to the Accessible Swing Project budget, with the funding coming from the Parks Capital Reserve.
The 2025 budget saw $150,600 approved for the project, contingent on securing grant funding. The town successfully received $112,568 from a federal fund, resulting in a contribution of $38,032 from the town.
Procurement discussions saw the project contract awarded to Habitat Systems Incorporated ($141,240) and Dirt Works Bobcat Services Ltd. ($9,475) for a total of $150,715, an overage of $115 compared to the original budget.
Additionally, after installation, it was determined that this contract package did not include the installation of a bench with the swing, which had been anticipated. A bench allows low mobility users to more easily enjoy the swing along with other users.
After contacting Habitat Systems, the organization agreed to complete the delivery and installation at no cost, leaving $871.50 to be covered by the town.
Edson town council approved these decisions during its regular meeting on Dec. 2.
