Barrhead County council has approved a land sale, as well as some equipment sales and purchases.
On Dec. 2, council accepted an offer of $75,500, including GST, for a 3.11-acre parcel at Lot E Plan 8322259. The county currently holds a tax forfeiture title on the lot.
Approximately $17,905 is owed to the county in tax arrears, which does not include realtor, legal, GST or administrative fees concerning the sale and transfer of the title. Officials say these will be calculated and taken from the sale proceeds.
The county says any balance remaining from the sale after all expenses have been covered will return to the original parcel owner given the county is satisfied there are no other debts owed.
Council also approved the purchase of three 2026 Caterpillar 150 AWD motor graders with 12-foot snow wings from Finning Canada Ltd. The units cost $558,000 each and have a guaranteed buy-back value of $239,900.
Units 201, 203 and 205, currently owned by the county, are reportedly due for replacement in the spring of 2026 as per the 10 Year Capital Equipment Plan. The warranties for units 201 and 205 also expire on March 23 and April 12, 2026, at which time the buy-back guarantee will also lapse. Meanwhile, unit 203 is no longer on warranty and has been used only as a spare grader for the last five years.
The 2026 Capital Budget includes a purchase of four new motor graders at a cost of $360,000 per unit in addition to one at a cost of $400,000.
As a result, in addition to the new grader purchase, council has authorized administration to trade in units 201 and 205 to Finning Canada Ltd. for respective prices of $237,500 and $247,000. Both are 2021 Caterpillar 150 AWD motor graders with snow wings.
Unit 203, a 2016 Caterpillar 140 M3 motor grader with a snow wing, will be sold to Wallis Bros. Construction Ltd. for $200,000.
