The Whitecourt Wolverines were on the road this weekend to face off against the Bonnyville Pontiacs and Lloydminster Bobcats.
On Friday, Nov. 28, Whitecourt took Bonnyville 2-1 with an overtime win.
Pontiac Maxim Shushkov earned a minor for cross checking at 14:35, and about 50 seconds later, Wolverine Cole Barrett took advantage of the powerplay to net Whitecourt’s first goal for a 1-0 lead. Jalen Bianchet and Spencer Claerhout got the helpers.
Christopher Lussier fired back for the Pontiacs one minute later with assistance from Evan Schulha to tie it to 1-1.
There was no scoring in the second or third, sending the game into overtime. At 3:30, Wolverine Kyle Tucker was assisted by Jalen Bianchet and Nathan Hawkins to net his 10th goal of the season and secure the 2-1 overtime win.
Victory then went to the home team on Saturday, with the Bobcats taking the Wolverines 2-1.
With assistance from Matt Williams, Whitecourt’s Jalen Bianchet scored the only goal in period one at 8:52 for a 1-0 lead.
In the second, Wolverine Spencer Claerhout was served a delay of game penalty at 4:31. Seven seconds later, Bobcat Kade Fendelet scored on the powerplay for a 1-1 tie.
Lloydminster netted another again at 10:50, and with no more scoring through the rest of the game, earned the 2-1 win.
Over the course of the game, Lloydminster outshot Whitecourt 30-17.
The Whitecourt Wolverines still lead the North Division with a 17-6-0-0 record and 34 points, while the Bobcats trail three points behind in second with 15-7-0-1.
