Whitecourt RCMP have arrested two individuals following an alleged theft near Chickadee Hill.
On Nov. 21, around 10 p.m., RCMP received a call reporting a theft in progress at a worksite in the area. Police say the site was well-lit and monitored with a live camera feed, which they were able to utilize to coordinate efforts between members and the Real Time Operations Centre. This reportedly allowed officers to take the suspects by surprise and arrest them without incident.
A quad the suspects allegedly used to reach the site was also towed.
As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old residing on the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation and a 63-year-old residing on Alexis First Nation were arrested and charged with:
- Break and enter
- Possession of break in tools
- Theft Under $5,000
The 41-year-old was also charged with failure to comply with a probation order.
The two individuals were brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. They are to appear before the Alberta Court of Justice in Whitecourt on Dec. 23.
