Holy Redeemer High School’s drama department invites the Edson community to its production of Charlotte’s Web.
More than 40 students in Grades 7-12 will participate in the production, based on the novel by E. B. White, which has become a staple in elementary classrooms.
“The students have been working very hard, whether it is on stage with their characters, or behind the scenes preparing lighting, sound, or preparing the sets,” commented drama teacher Peter Taylor. “They are committed to putting on a great show.”
The school last performed the play in 2009, but this year, rehearsals have looked a bit different due to the teachers’ strike in October. To accommodate the closure, the opening has been pushed back to later than previous years.
“The students understand the challenges of the condensed schedule, but they are committed to making it work and being ready for the first performance on the 15th,” said Taylor.
He adds, actors have been rehearsing up to four nights a week. Key players include Emily S. as Charlotte, Delaney S. as Wilbur and Sara S. as Fern.
Shows run Dec. 15-18 at the Red Brick Arts Centre, and will offer some daytime performances for local schools as well.
Tickets are $10 each and available at the school office by calling 780-723-7437.
The production is still seeking sponsors, and interested businesses can contact Taylor at the school for more information.
