It was a good weekend for the Whitecourt Wolverines following a 5-2 win over the visiting Camrose Kodiaks Friday night and an 8-1 hammering of the Drayton Valley Thunder at JDA place on Sunday.
Friday night’s game saw Camrose light the lamp first on the powerplay before Whitecourt’s Mason Russell scored his sixth of the season to tie it up 1-1 after 20 minutes.
The second period brought two more goals for the Wolverines, including one from Spencer Claerhout on the powerplay, his seventh of the season, and one from Jager Gugyelka, his second goal of the season which gave Whitecourt a 3-1 lead after two.
The third period saw Camrose come to within one before the Wolverines scored two more to make it a 5-2 final.
Whitecourt’s third period goals came from Chayse King, his fourth of the season, and Wyatt Ball, his third of the season which came on the powerplay.

Sunday was a dominant performance from the Wolverines, however, as they took it to Drayton Valley, starting with four unanswered goals in the first period, including two on the powerplay.
Those goals came from Brendan Ruskowski, his 10th of the season, on the powerplay, Jalen Bianchet, his 22nd of the season, also on the powerplay, Mason Russell, his seventh of the season, and Jalen Bianchet, his second of the game and period, and 23rd of the season to that point.
The second period saw Whitecourt score a fifth unanswered goal, this one from Ty Rayan which brought him to four goals on the season so far before Drayton Valley hit the board with it’s lone goal from Damian Hill, his fifth of the season which came on the powerplay.
The final frame saw Ty Rayan score his second goal of the game and fifth of the season, shorthanded before Whitecourt scored another shorthanded goal, this time from Matt Williams, unassisted.
The Wolverines final goal of the game came from Brendan Ruskowski, who potted his second of the night and 11th of the season before the clock ticked down to zero.
The wins improve the Wolverines record to 14-4 and first place in the AJHL’s North Division.
Their next game is Saturday, Nov. 15, in Canmore to face the 9-7-1 Eagles.
