Woodlands County’s new municipal government dove into its first agenda earlier this week, which included some organizational decisions, policy approval and reports.
An organizational meeting held Oct. 29 saw the position of reeve re-appointed to Councillor Dave Kusch.
The councillor acting as deputy reeve will rotate every eight months alphabetically, beginning with Coun. Alan Deane.
This was followed by a regular meeting, where council approved a new volunteer firefighter remuneration policy for better clarity. County employees who are also volunteer firefighters and get called to an incident during regular county work hours will only receive their county salary for that time.
Council also adopted a new Bulk Water Policy, which regulates the use of the Bulk Water Fill Stations to now provide users with potable bulk water.
Station access will require a county-issued fob and pre-payment in an effort to modernize the current paper and invoice-based system.
Potable bulk water will be supplied at the Blue Ridge and Fort Assiniboine treatment plants, while non-potable bulk water for agricultural purposes will be supplied at the Anselmo and Fort Assiniboine Agricultural Services buildings.
Council also received the Q3 report from Enforcement Services, which noted that from July to September, there was a significant amount of calls related to the Animal Control Bylaw, Animal Protection Act, Dangerous Dog Act and the Dog Bylaw specific to Woodlands County. Officers say this issue has been a significant concern to area residents and remains ongoing. Eleven out of 40 incidents reported to Enforcement Services over the quarter were related to the Animal Control Bylaw.
