The Town of Whitecourt has released the official results of its municipal election, which took place on Oct. 20.
Ray Hilts is now Whitecourt’s mayor after receiving 988 votes.
Former councillor and candidate Derek Schlosser tallied 787 votes in the mayoral race.
Whitecourt’s next council will consist of the following councillors: Tara Baker, who received 1,172 votes; Serena Lapointe, who acquired 1,065; Brian Wynn, with 975; Bill McAree, with 915; Braden Lanctot, with 816; and Mike Braun, who received 794 votes.
Baker, Lapointe, Lanctot and McAree were all incumbent candidates who served on council in the last term.
Voter turnout was 25 per cent, with 1,797 ballots cast. That value was 28 per cent, or 2,280 voters, in the 2021 election.
Election results were confirmed at noon on Friday, Oct. 24.
The first regular meeting of council takes place on Oct. 27, following an organizational meeting at 4 p.m. On the agenda is the appointment of the deputy mayor and various board and committee positions.
