The Edson Fire Department (EFD) had a busy morning on October 9, responding to multiple calls as well as a collision.
Around 4:50 a.m., the department was already attending a call when it was dispatched to a structure fire in the 4300 block of 1 Avenue in Edson.
Resources were directed to the new fire, and officials say the first unit arrived four minutes after the dispatch was received.
Upon arrival, crews found a commercial building with fire self-venting through the roof. Multiple water supply lines were laid down to quickly bring the fire under control; however, due to the nature of the setup, it took several hours to completely extinguish it.
The EFD responded to the incident with two engines, a heavy rescue, and two command units. It was also supported by RCMP, Emergency Medical Services, ATCO and Fortis.
The fire is currently under investigation. There were no injuries reported.
EFD officials would like to emphasize that residents should never drive over a hose line at the scene of a fire. During this incident, a vehicle reportedly drove over one supply line, which could cut off the water supply and endanger firefighters, impair their ability to control the fire, and damage equipment. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case this time, and the supply line was undamaged.
While the department was attending this call, crews also responded to an unrelated motor vehicle collision and an unrelated call for fire alarms ringing.
