Yellowhead County council has approved a three per cent increase in utility rates for water, sewer and solid waste, to go into effect next year.
Council gave three readings to Bylaw 06.25, the Utility Amendment Bylaw, during its regular meeting on Aug. 26.
Cory Armfelt, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning Services, says the increase is intended to accommodate for inflation, which is proposed to be about two per cent in 2025, and aid in cost recovery targets in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan.
Cost recovery will be analyzed in closer detail next year, the county says.
The amendments have been made now so the new rates can be accommodated in the 2026 operating budget.
Detailed changes are outlined in Appendix B from the council agenda below.
