Barrhead has set another heat record for the second day in a row as a heat wave continues to scorch most of Alberta.
Yesterday, the Barrhead area hit a high of 31.9 degrees Celsius, above the 1933 record of 31.1 degrees. Records for this area have been kept since 1912.
The Edmonton area got up to 32.8 degrees, replacing the 31.7 degree record, also set in 1933. The records for Edmonton go back to 1880.
Athabasca tied a 1940 record of 31.7 degrees. This area’s weather data dates back to 1900.
The weather office expects things to cool down for Sunday, but some parts of Alberta are currently forecast to have relatively hot conditions for much of next week.
