The Town of Edson and Town of Fox Creek have both been named as recipients under the 2024-25 round of Alberta’s Small Community Opportunity Program.
The program provides grants meant to help municipalities solve challenges and find opportunities in rural areas. Indigenous and small communities, as well as non-profit groups they work with, can receive between $20,000-$100,000 for these local projects.
Edson has been awarded $44,000 to support its Invest Edson Business Accelerator Program. The town says this project should enhance the Invest Edson initiative through targeted marketing, workshops for local businesses, and by establishing an ambassador’s network to promote Edson’s advantages.
Fox Creek is set to receive $56,025 to support an analysis of the town’s retail market, which will reportedly apply data-driven insights to identify gaps, assess economic leakage and find opportunities for local business growth.
