It’s time to buck up and put your boots on for the Whitecourt Woodlands Rodeo, taking place June 20-22.
Things kick off Friday evening with an Alberta Barrel Racing Association jackpot race, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the event at 7 p.m.
Then on Saturday, attendees can head to the grounds at 11 a.m. to see the rodeo at noon.
Malcolm Heaven, president of the Whitecourt Ag Society, says there won’t be chuck wagon races this year, but there will be heavy horse pullers to finish off the day.
There will also be family-friendly activities, beer gardens, and even an evening dance.
The action resumes the following day with a Sunday morning slack.
If this is your first rodeo, Heaven explains, “The slack is all the competitors that can’t get into the main event just because of time restrictions, and they’ve got other rodeos to go to, they go to two or three rodeos some weekends, some of them. So, every rodeo has a slack of all the extra people that want to get in points to go to the big show”
Tickets are $20 per person, $15 for youth and seniors and free for ages under six.
Attendees can also camp on-site for free with their admission purchase.
