It’s time to break out the running shoes and lace up for Whitecourt’s Run 4 Fun, taking place this Saturday.
The race is a spinoff of the Fallen 4 Marathon that was held from 2005-2015 to commemorate four local RCMP officers who lost their lives while on duty.
Town officials say Run 4 Fun will maintain the same enthusiasm and community spirit as the previous race, while encouraging healthy and active living.
On June 7, the race will start and finish at the Allan and Jean Millar Centre, with the first race taking off at 8 a.m.
This first set of racers will be those running the 21.1 km half marathon, followed by the 10 km racers at 8:30 a.m., and the 5 km at 8:45 a.m. The kids marathon will start at 10:30 a.m.
A map with each race route is available online.
The race is also the second step in participating in the Yellowhead Triple Crown annual race.
To participate in the Yellowhead Triple Crown, runners need to join three races: Eddie’s Big Run (Town of Edson), Run 4 Fun (Town of Whitecourt) and Run in the Rockies (Town of Hinton). Complete all three races, and you’ll get a chance to run in the Triple Crown, which has its own medals and prizes to aim for.
