Two people charged following a public safety alert issued near Mayerthorpe last year have been ordered to stand trial.
Dakota Jace Patterson, 28, of Whitecourt, and Santiago Nickolus Arthur, 31, of Grande Prairie, were ordered to stand trial following the completion of a preliminary hearing in Mayerthorpe Court of Justice on May 30, 2025. A trial date, however, has yet to be set.
The Dangerous Person Alert was issued on Sept. 17, 2024, with one of the suspects turning himself in to police later that day, while an arrest warrant was issued for the second suspect at the time.

Dakota Patterson was originally charged with 16 counts, including:
- Kidnapping with a firearm;
- Robbery with a firearm;
- Theft of truck;
- Assault with a weapon;
- Careless use of a firearm;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Flight from Peace officer;
- Fail to comply with firearms prohibition;
- Fail to comply with Probation.
Santiago Patterson was originally charged with 14 counts, including:
- Kidnapping with a firearm;
- Robbery with a firearm;
- Theft of truck;
- Assault with a weapon;
- Careless use of a firearm;
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
- Uttering threats against a person;
- Fail to comply with firearms prohibition.
RCMP say their investigation has determined the offences committed were targeted.
