The Whitecourt Food Bank is requesting donations of personal and household items to help it support the Swan Hills evacuees currently finding shelter in town.
Swan Hills residents were ordered to evacuate on Monday night due to a wildfire in the region, and were sent to the Allan and Jean Millar Centre in Whitecourt.
Whitecourt Mayor Tom Pickard said about 700 evacuees showed up that evening, with about 15 joining them Tuesday morning.
As the town works to support and make them feel welcome, the food bank requests the following items:
- Toiletries: tooth brushes; tooth paste; shampoo and conditioner; bar soap or body wash; deodorant; razors and/or shaving cream; toilet paper; diapers
- Laundry detergent
- Dish soap
- Coffee or tea
- Cat food and cat litter
- Dog food
Donations can be dropped off at Whitecourt Food Bank, located at the Carlan Services Community Resource Centre (76 Sunset Boulevard).
