With the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) regular season complete and the playoffs well underway, league officials have announced League Award winners for 2024/25, including a member of the Whitecourt Wolverines.
Wolverines goaltender Zac Onyskiw has been named the recipient of the Top Goaltender Award and the AJHL Most Valuable Player Award. This is the first time in franchise history that a Wolverines player has won both these awards in the same season.
Onyskiw had a dominant season, posting a league-best 1.87 GAA, a .939 save percentage and had the most wins of all AJHL goaltenders with a record of 26-7-1-3. He was also recognized as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game 10 times and the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week in the middle of an eight-game winning streak in October of 2024. He also put together a five-game win streak before the holiday break in December and won eight of his last 10 games to wrap up the regular season.
Wolverines alternate goaltender Elliot Pratt also had a good season, posting a 2.56 GAA, a .911 save percentage and a record of 8-4-2-0. League officials recognized both goaltenders as recipients of the Top Goaltender award of 2024/25 for the second consecutive season after the pair posted a league-best 124 goals against for a 2.29 GAA.
