With warmer-than-average temperatures in the forecast, Whitecourt residents are being told to keep off the ice at Festival Park Pond and the Festival Park Skating Oval.
Crews say the ice is currently too thin for any kind of recreational activity and are asking residents to obey the “Thin Ice” signs that have been placed in the area. Crews will continue to monitor ice conditions and will post updates to the Town’s social media accounts once the pond and skating oval are reopened.
Residents are also being asked to avoid throwing sticks, stones or other debris on the ice as this could cause major delays in resurfacing once the ice reaches an appropriate thickness.
The outdoor rinks at Central School, Ecole Ste. Anne School, Percy Baxter School and Southlands Park are still open.
Town officials apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank residents for their cooperation.
