Whitecourt residents can break out their skates now that two outdoor skating rinks are open for the season.
The outdoor rinks at Percy Baxter School and Southlands Park are now open for the season, however, crews say the rinks at Pat Hardy School and Central School still require additional flooding and are asking residents to keep off the surface until the ice is fully ready.
Residents are also being informed that the ice on Festival Park Pond is still too thin for any kind of recreational activity. Residents are being asked to obey the thin ice signs which have been placed in the area and to avoid throwing sticks and stones in the pond as it creates obstacles when maintaining the skating surface.
Officials say updates will be provided when the ice on the pond has reached an appropriate thickness and the rinks at Pat Hardy and Central School are ready for use.
