A Freezing Rain Warning has been issued for Woodlands County, including the Town of Whitecourt and the Hamlet of Blue Ridge as of Wednesday, Dec. 4.
Officials with Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) say freezing rain is expected to continue throughout most of the day from Grande Prairie to Whitecourt.
Freezing rain has the potential to cause slippery surfaces on roads and walkways, as such, drivers are reminded to slow down, watch for taillights ahead, maintain safe following distances and adjust driving behaviours to the road conditions.
They further note that utility outages may occur.
As of 11:00 a.m., Dec. 4, Whitecourt area highways are reported as being covered in snow and ice. Visit 511 Alberta for current highway conditions throughout the province.
