According to officials with Alberta Health Services (AHS), due to a lack of anesthetist coverage, the Edson Healthcare Centre Emergency Department will be unable to perform surgeries and C-section operations for the following time periods:
- 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20. – 8:00 a.m., Monday, Nov. 25.
- 5:00 p.m., Friday, Nov. 29. – 7:00 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 10.
Officials say there were no C-sections scheduled for this time, previously booked surgeries have been re-scheduled and the Edson Healthcare Centre will continue to provide low-risk obstetrical services during these gaps.
Maternity patients are still able to present to the Edson Healthcare Centre for assessment by a physician who will work with patients to develop an appropriate care plan. AHS officials say patients who require emergency C-section or surgical services will be diverted to alternate care centres as needed.
AHS officials stress that this is a temporary gap in coverage and say they are working to ensure residents continue to have access to the care they need at all times.
Officials apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank residents for their patience.
